I read prior reviews warning about the chain’s weight. Mentally preparing myself to suck it up, I went ahead and bought it anyway. The sense of relaxation I feel when I’m running errands is unequal to anything I’ve felt before with a bike lock. You just know that you’re bike will most probably be there upon return. I say most probably, because there’s always a determined thief. The only problem with the chain is…..the weight! I am a strong person and in excellent shape. But, how are you going to carry a 20-lb chain around when riding around? Most likely in a back pack. The problems is that you could probably doing some serious hurt to your spine because of the uneven distribution of weight. The repetitive weight stress place on the spinal column could be of concern. I’ve had the chain for two months, ridden around 50 hours or so in that time and I feel that my neck, in particular, has undergone considerable strain. I’ve felt some amusing twinges and the neck has been a small sore from the compressive forces. Enough said though. This is nothing to do with the actual chain’s main function, which is why I am giving it five stars. It’s a small bulky when slipping it between the spokes of a bicycle wheel but well worth the effort for the peace of mind you get in return.

This is a serious lock that I am sure could help safeguard anything it can be attached to.

I did not fully comprehend the size or weight of this lock when I bought it. I intended to use it to help secure my motorcycle on a recent long-distance trip. Unfortunately, I quickly learned that this lock is too large and too heavy to be practical for transporting on my motorcycle for long distances in addition to other luggage. As a result, I returned the lock. This mistake was mine and should not reflect on the quality or potential effectiveness of this lock.

I reckon this lock could be very effective for helping secure something like a motorcycle, if the lock could remain in one place and the motorcycle, bicycle attached and detached from this lock as required.

Because of its size and weight, it takes a while to lock down my motorycle at home. But once the chain has secured my rear tire and frame swingarm, it will take a thief time and make lots of noise to get past this chain. Unfortunately this chain & lock is just too huge and heavy to carry around to lock my motorcycle away from home.
